What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a personalized system of healthcare from Asia that involves the insertion of fine needles into specific spots on the body which stimulate the natural healing processes of the body and mind.
Properly applied, acupuncture can provide immediate relief of your symptoms, and a course of treatment can bring about lasting curative effect.
Traditionally, the effects of acupuncture were explained through the paradigm of Qi, or vital energy, being adjusted by the acupuncturist.
The modern understanding of acupuncture draws upon evidence-based research, looking at the effects of acupuncture biomedical aspects such as the nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, and circulatory system.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
Once you’ve arrived for your appointment, you will be shown into a private treatment room. You’ll meet with an acupuncturist who will evaluate your condition by asking questions about your health, taking your vital signs & performing a physical exam. Once an initial diagnosis is made by the acupuncturist, they will perform a test treatment to see how your condition responds. The results will guide the acupuncturist in determining the best treatment plan for your condition.
What Should I do to prepare?
After having made your appointment online or over the phone, you will receive a welcome email containing an intake form. Filling it out and submitting it back to us online will speed up your initial consultation.
Plan for your initial acupuncture consultation to be about 60 minutes long.
On the day of your appointment, avoid taking any non-prescription medications that might mask your condition. This will allow your acupuncturist to more clearly assess the situation.
Wear loose comfortable clothing that will allow for easy access to your knees and elbows.
Upon arriving, turn off your phone’s ringer or place your phone in airplane mode.
